Downy Dunk Tip

Use unscented Downy, because your doll will smell like the Downy you use on her hair.

This is terrific to know. Thank you.

I use a Downy Dunk method that is slightly different from the norm. Mine is more involved and does not use a steamer. I keep hoping someone will post a detailed step-by-step instructional post for those who want to use the traditional Downy Dunk.

I did the downy dunk in a ziplock, someone showed that method on HB, and I also used Sleek and Shine along with the flat iron. And my dolls hair is still beautiful and silky.

I would like to smoothen my Kirsten's hair out, I washed and conditioned it and it is less dry, but I want to make her hair really shiny and soft.

I saw someone's before and after pictures of a Kirsten doll with a treatment (don't know if it was Downy or not) but I was wondering if someone could please post more specific instructions?

Do you just dunk her hair into a bowl of downy or soak it in downy? When you use a flat iron can you put it directly on their hair or have to cover with a wet towel or flat iron while the hair is wet?

Any answers would be appreciated!

Okay, I am going to be the stupid person on the board, but I have a question.
What exactly is the Downy dunk?? Is it dunking your doll in Downy fabric softener?
How do you know when your doll needs it? My Sam is a little dirty on her face, would it help?

Downy won't help with vinyl - what it does is soften and smooth the wig. You only dunk your doll's hair.

For cleaning vinyl, use a mr. clean magic eraser (be careful, it can take off face paint) or baking soda on a damp cloth.

Adorevintage, I washed my dolls hair with a Wig Shampoo from Sally's Beauty Supply, rinse thrououghly, and then let soak in unscented Downey, again rinse. I towel dryed by laying the doll out on a towel and rolling up the towel and squeezing. Do not rub just squeeze the water out. I applyed some sleek and shine, brushed little sections until I was done than started using the flat iron directly on the wet hair, lowest setting. Little sections at a time, and it will take every bit of curl out. So be prepared for stick straight hair. I have since gotten a steamer and have not tried it yet. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for posting!

So I am assuming you can also use a curling iron (low settings) to curl AG hair? Right now my Kirsten has loose waves/curls because I had her hair braided, but I would like the option of changing her hairstyle up once in awhile

I am a grandma, and do not have any expertise with curling irons. My feeble attempt to use one on my AGOT from '95 did not have good results. Even on the lowest setting it not was not what I was expecting. Next I'm going to try and steam her hair and use curlers, just for a little bounce. My dolls hair was very dirty and frizzy, and the straightener is very extreme, with only one result, straight. And do not use it on the bangs.

If I were you, I would wash, condition, steam and curl for the results you are wanting. And go and look at other peoples albums for the beautiful results.

Keep us posted.

Since looking at the all the beautiful albums of dolls with perfect hair, I've been thinking that my Felicity and my Samantha could really use some massive hair care. Sam's hair I think is beyond hope, she really needs a new wig sometime. I haven't taken any pictures of her because I don't want you all thinking that I have been wicked to my doll's hair. It's just that I have had Samantha since 1988. Felicity's hair is in much better condition but it is still pretty bad. Anyway I am a little nervous about trying downey dunks and flat irons because I have never done anything like it. How much Downy to use??? Do I let the doll soak in a basin of Downy? Or do I put it in a plastic wrap/shower cap thing of Downy? How long? I have read everything from an hour to one day.
In the post on curling irons on dolls I read that you should take the dolls head off. Eek! What if I can't get it back on. I can't even get my Felicity to stand half the time.
Any tips on the de-frizzing process would be greatly appreciated. I love the 80's and have thought about getting a AGT doll to make my 80's doll. And I used to have and love thta permed 80's hair, but not for my Samantha or Felicity.
