Do some of your dolls seem to pay better attention to you when you photograph them? I have some girls who will not look at the camera no matter what! They always have that far-away look in their eye. I have other girls who love to look directly into the camera, and always eem to make eye contact when you are looking at them.
I have that problem except that I can't get any to look into the camera. I found that if I am lower than them when I photograph them, they look less spaced out. I am still not completely satisfied with how they look and hope that I get better at taking pictures overtime.
Hee hee! That can be tough. In my cinematography class, the way we learned to avoid that "glazed" look is to add something called an "eyelight." Basically, try to set up a lamp (without the shade) or something behind you so the light catches your doll's eyes. That way, it looks like their eyes are glistening. It can be tricky sometimes (I know I don't have outlets outside ;)) but it's something to try.
American_Mommy - is your camera digital? If so, it may have a white balance. Your manual should tell you how to activate it. Just hold up a white piece of paper in front of the camera, then press the button. You'll notice the colors on the digital screen change. This should help eliminate that yucky green tone you get from fluorescents (which I also hate - ew, green!)
I really try hard to keep within my dolls line of site. I also try to keep all of the dolls in the same line. When one looks one direction when I take a picture and another in another direction it messes with the look of the photo.
